At Elstow Waihou School we believe our greatest purpose is to spark our student's enthusiasm for learning by making amazing memories so that they will become lifelong learners. Our school success is built on a strong team founded on positive relationships; students, teachers, the Board of Trustees and the wider community all working together for our tamariki.
We believe that encouraging all our students to develop a sense of belonging within our unique New Zealand society has a monumental impact on enhancing all aspects of our children’s wellbeing.
We are passionate and proud of our turangawaewae, our unique place where the importance of people and connectedness is held most highly. As our tamariki undertake their learning journey they gain a greater understanding and appreciation of their pepeha and importance of sharing the stories within them. And when our oldest tamariki leave, their final task at our school is to create their pou whenua so they can acknowledge and symbolise their contributions and continued connectedness to their turangawaewae – our school.
Our school’s rich culture develops our children to be leaders and amazing citizens of a more cohesive and inclusive society in Aotearoa New Zealand which in turn contributes to building and strengthening New Zealand’s nationhood.
